“With HighJump our fleet can grow, and we can add more owner-operator drivers without adding more back-office staff." Atticus.

Red River markets and transports natural gas, propane, and other commodities to and from refineries in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. The company operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, and employs 25 over-the-road tanker drivers, plus a handful of back office workers. Red River also manages supply risk for other companies.
Finding the Right Solution
Red River earned a reputation as an "on-time" company, no small feat when you consider it used Excel spreadsheets to run its business. For a long time, that worked just fine relative to Red River’s scale. However, as the company grew, visibility became a challenge.
Red River's President, Atticus Miller, explains: "We had a lot of spreadsheets. All of them were stored locally on different computers. Data and roles were in siloes. As a result, it was hard to keep track of what was going on. We knew we were doing a great job, but we couldn’t always see it. Then, we got to wondering how we were going to keep up with our growth and the accelerated pace of our business."
That’s when Red River knew it was time to find a new solution.
Implementing the System
Atticus and Red River Vice President, Jim Vines, first identified their pain points. From there, they investigated several solutions online. Atticus thought the HighJump TMS would be a great fit for Red River, providing the right balance between what the system could do and how much the company was prepared to bite off, in terms of both price and functionality. Red River signed a contract with HighJump in November 2013 and just months later, HighJump TMS went live.
Before the HighJump products, many pieces of Red River paper were touched seven times. Take driver load tickets, for instance. They’d come in and be entered into one spreadsheet for operations. Then into another for payroll, and yet another for invoicing. The process was time consuming and, despite employees’ best efforts, error prone. "Now, we have one data file that we kick out for operations, payroll, invoicing, and accounts receivable," says Atticus.
