“We now do all payroll, billing, and leased contractor settlements/chargebacks to be as automated as we possibly can. This saves hundreds, if not thousands of manhours a year, lowering our bottom line and expenses.”
-Jacob Newman, Office Director
Newman Carriers, Inc.
Newman Carriers was founded in 1984 in Edwardsville, IL by Joe Newman, a 25 year industry veteran and expert. At the time of founding, the company was running only one truck. Newman Carriers has since gone on to be named a premier chemical carrier in the Midwest.
Newman Carriers has maintained consistent growth and success over the years, but recently it began to outgrow its once effective methods. Dispatching operations had been handled mainly using pen and paper. For billing and other accounting tasks, the company had employed a transportation software system, but the software became obsolete when the developer discontinued support and updates of the product, leaving the company in need of a stable and time-tested replacement.Newman Carriers mounted the search for a new system that would handle the company’s dispatching and accounting. After reviewing several leading transportation management systems, staff members attended a live demonstration of the Prophesy software with Prophesy National Sales Manager Kevin Pasternack. The Newman Carriers staff looked at a number of solutions but saw that Prophesy was by far the most cost-effective for the range of capabilities it offered. Additionally, they were impressed by the user-friendly interface, the convenient visibility of important data and the automation of everyday tasks.
With stability a primary concern for the company, the staff wanted a combination of dispatching and accounting software that would meet company needs not only now but also well into the future. Having recently purchased Intuit QuickBooks® Pro based on its solid reputation and popularity, they were pleased to learn that Prophesy is an Intuit partner and that its DispatchSeries products offer a robust integration with QuickBooks. They selected Prophesy Dispatch with QuickBooks Interface, including modules for mobile communications, driver management, commercial mileage and routing and fuel tax reporting.
The Newman Carriers staff then attended training sessions with Prophesy’s Training and Implementation team, learning the skills that would help them get the most out of their new Prophesy software. “The training really helped us get started,” said a Mark Voelker, Director of Safety and Compliance. “After our initial training we had a few questions and specific areas of the software that we wanted to spend more time on, and the instructors were glad to help.”
